The vista from here

Vista comes out today. That's exciting. I came to work at 8 a.m. which doesn't happen very often (It's medium rare).

Yesterday, we started a new semester of Jihada, a women's book group that focuses on God and stuff. We decided to read 'Discipline: The Glad Surrender.' After being totally discouraged by the first chapter (which features, mainly, the author's thoughts on wildlife, starring a ewe and a javelina. No joking here.), we dove into the second chapter which, in my opinion, was amazing. Really. I appreciate so much when Christians talk about subjects that matter - like 'What's really in charge of me and the decisions I'm making?', aka mastery.

The motto of the Moravian church is:

(in Latin) In necessariis unitas, in dubiis libertas, in omnibus caritas
(in English) "In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; and in all things, love"

In reading (well, skimming) about Wesley, the Moravians elbowed their way into the article. This is their motto - and something Chrissy from the Tonks has repeatedly said. C.Grue, you're Moravian, which is good. They are fascinating. Anyone know of a good book about the Moravians?

So, John Wesley had this list. He and his friends would review the list every night and question themselves as to whether or not they had fulfilled these points of personal importance. Four of the points are hung up in my room - and have been since me mum pointed them out in Saudi, from which time they have been kicking me around.

Am I a slave to dress, friends, work or habits?

Am I self-conscious, self-pitying, or self-justifying?

Am I defeated in any part of my life?

Am I jealous, impure, critical, irritable, touchy or distrustful?


I am challenged by them ALWAYS. Thoughts?
